Hello Parents and Students,
If your student is in the 9th-11th grade at Hopkins High School and took an Edmentum Accucess Benchmark Assessment in Reading Comprehension or Mathematics at some point this last year, then they can use this summer to continue working on their individualized Prescription. Upon completion of the Edmentum Accucess Benchmark test(s), your student received a grade level equivalency score. For example if your child scored a 902 in Reading that would translate into a beginning 9th grade level.
More importantly your student also receives a “prescription” of lessons working on skills they missed on the Accucess test. For example, if they missed vocabulary commonly found in the 8th grade, it will give them lessons to work on those vocabulary skills in the Reading Prescription. The same applies to the Math prescription. If your student incorrectly answered questions on balancing equations, slope-intercept, or solving by substitution, he or she will be given lessons that work on those missed skills.
While we are using time during the school day for students to work on improving their reading and mathematics skills throughout the school year, your student can also work on them from home on a PC/laptop with an Internet connection. Doing this practice will help keep their skills sharp while helping them prepare for the upcoming year. Working on their Prescription over the summer will also be great to use as test prep for the SAT assessment as well.
