Frequently-asked Testing Questions:

When should my child plan on being in attendance for their testing day?

All Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen will complete their College Board Test on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 during the normal school day.  This includes all HPS students.  In addition, all Juniors will complete their ACT WorkKeys and M-STEP Science and Social Studies tests on Thursday, April 13, 2023 while in the building.  These testing sessions require all students to attend as well, and will be taken during the normal school day schedule.

How will my child know where to report on their testing day(s)?  What should they bring with them for their testing day(s)?  Will safety protocols be in place during testing?

Schedules will be posted throughout the building as we get closer to testing days so that students know when and where they are to report, time frames for each test (and lunchtimes as well), and what they are allowed to bring with them.

Are students required to complete their test(s)?

Yes.  These tests are mandatory by state law and free of charge.

What is the Vo-tech Schedule on these dates?

No HHS Juniors will attend Vo-tech on April 12th, 2023.  HHS Seniors will attend school on this day, as they will be participating in a College/Career Fair county-wide day.  When Junior PM Vo-tech students complete their SAT on April 13th, they may either go home or report to the library while waiting until the end of the school day.  All other juniors will report to their 5th hour classes after lunch that day.

Does my child need to do anything prior to their testing day?

Here are a few recommended tips before testing day(s):

  1. Make sure you bring a lot of pencils and good erasers.  DO NOT BRING A WATCH OR CELL PHONE – PROHIBITED!
  2. Make sure the calculator you bring is an approved calculator.  Not sure?  Check out the website https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat-subject-tests/taking-the-test/calculator-policy to see if your calculator will work for your test(s).  Calculators are not required, but are recommended.
  3. Interested in learning more about the test they are about to take?  Go to https://www.hpsvikings.org/our-schools/hhs/state-testing/ for specific test information.
  4. Juniors should have a list of the 4 places they would like to send their SAT scores prior to their SAT testing day.  Then, while filling in information for the test, they will bubble-in the codes for each of these institutions.  These are the 4 locations their SAT scores will be sent to FOR FREE!  Otherwise, they will need to log into their College Board account and pay ($12 per location) to send their scores somewhere else.

Is there anything else I need to know about my child’s test(s)?

Yes, if your child is taking the PSAT 10 or the SAT there is information your student will be required to provide during the pre-administration session (along with optional information like four free SAT score sends, opt-in to the Student Search, and an optional student questionnaire).  Here is information about two of these optional sections, and a link to provide consent for your student to complete:

1 – Student Search Service

As a parent, you can provide consent for your student to opt-in to the Student Search Service when they complete their answer sheet. Student Search Service connects students with additional colleges and scholarship organizations by sharing information with participating organizations, which will provide you and your student with:

• information about colleges and universities that match your student’s academic interests

• information on financial aid and scholarships to help deserving students access scholarships they’ve earned

• information about majors, courses, and degree options

The College Board only shares data with eligible colleges, universities, and scholarship and educational opportunity programs that signed an agreement to communicate with students only for the purposes listed above. These entities most often connect with students based on expected graduation date, cumulative grade point average (GPA), score range, and intended college major.

2 – Optional Student Questionnaire

As a parent, you can provide consent for your student to participate in the optional questionnaire. The information from these questions will be added to their College Board student record. Your child’s responses to the optional questionnaire:

  • provide data used by the College Board for research and planning to improve tests and services
  • help match students with colleges, universities, and scholarship and educational opportunity programs

You can learn more about the College Board’s privacy policy at https://about.collegeboard.org/privacy-policy.

If you are interested in having your child opt into the Student Search Service, and/or complete the optional Student Questionnaire, then you must fill out the following link by March 1, 2023.
